8-26-07 A Day at the Fair

Took my sons to the "Great Minnesota Get Together" today.

It was a really good afternoon. Aric's dad went along, but he was feeling particularly generous with his time and I never felt rushed.

Aric loved the Old Mill ride and the kiddie whale ride--not so fond of the kiddie dragon roller coaster--but got over it quickly.

Big Discovery on Saturday Morning! I was teaching Aric to sign "OK" in sign language letters and he started signing "J K L M N O P..." I was Stunned. I started doing the whole American Sign Language alphabet with him and he knows it all.

And....

It's a great way to get him to wait and be patient for things...I used it today at least 5 times...have him spell what he is waiting for. It keeps him occupied.

Tonight he kept opening his room door and I checked his diaper and it wasn't that---but he would go back in and I would hear him say "clowns". Elliot had scared him earlier at the fair when he told Aric that a clown garbage can was going to eat him. (Big brothers!...it's not much different than any others...except Elliot knows enough to let Mom in on it right away)

So I went in and told Aric that I had heard him saying clowns (to which he said "all done" ) and I told him he had more Power than the clowns because he could spell clown. And we spelled clown about 3 times. And I said the thing about having more power than the clowns cuz he could spell and he giggled. And he has been in his room quietly and happily since.
