7-30-07 CDs Shatter

Have you ever purposely cracked a CD in half? They shatter into a hundred pieces.

I didn't know that until I tried it on Saturday morning for the first time. It was a pink CD that said "For Lady Ophoenix--each track has a meaning" on it.

I hadn't played it in many months. Maybe even a year.

I guess deep down I didn't believe they had any meaning anymore.

Except maybe the first song--the acoustic recording by his sister called "It was Just a Dream".

I had a friend with me when I did it--to make sure I went through with it. That was good, because as I started to bend it, and felt the flexible resistance of the plastic, I would have stopped on my own. But with moral support, I just continued, with tears welling up in my eyes---and went for it.

But instead of the clean break I expected--it shattered into sharp little rainbow pieces.

I keep finding tiny bits of it all over my house and having to throw them away.

Somewhere down near Florida (or maybe on his next trip to France) there should be a handmade beaded necklace floating in the ocean.
