- Seeing Red
- I got back a paper that I wrote for my History of Art and Architecture class.
It had Red Pen all over it.
My instructor didn't like the way I write.
She said a formal term paper should not contain any opinions---just research.
And that if a word like Goddess isn't capitalized "in English" is shouldn't be capitalized in a paper.
I think she might be a Christian who didn't like my thesis that the Goddess is around when great Creative times in History occur.
Guess I'd better bottle up those opinions before next fall. Just repeat back what I have learned verbatim.
That's how she taught class--put the textbook verbatim on Power Point.
She gave me all the points. The research was there too.
I don't know--I was taught a thesis statement was where you could put what your paper was about--and that usually that was your theory formed from your research. And that as long as you had the research facts to back it up--it was up to you what to theorize about.
Maybe I need to read a book on writing again. Or maybe she is wrong. Or maybe we are both right.
But I don't think next year at DCTC is going to be one of Creative Freedom for Linda O.
